Happy Anniversary to me. #17 by lauren-rabbit Happy Anniversary to me. #17 by lauren-rabbit
Happy 17th Anniversary to me.
3/5/95 I was run over by a car (Honda Civic) on the lower east side (not intentionally). Went up, over, partially through the windshield, back out again and bounced off the curb. (So I'm told.) There were a number of broken bits but the doctors were amazed I had no concussion. They said it was because it appeared I had a thicker than average skull. Just what I always wanted, for my mother to have medical proof. I consider it a happy anniversary.

Anniversaries (and birthdays) are interesting things to me. For, as I see them, not only are they a day to remember a great event, but they can also be looked at as a form of victory as well; for it is another year passed and we are still alive to remember. Happy (belated) anniversary.

I don't really believe in luck, however; you are lucky that you've survived such a horrible crash. You should indeed celebrate such an achievement. Congratulations, and happy anniversary. :)

I do not know that it qualifies as a 'crash' so much as a 'thud'. But thank you. Sometimes luck is all I believe.

Thank you. No but then I thought it would be fun if I did, nowadays I would just get strip-searched then shot, and never saw the car or the driver then or after. If I had run over someone I would have at least sent a card.

Perhaps you can track them down by the 20th anniversary and send them a card as per your last posting?
That would be fun.

Can only remember the first name. It was Zoltan. Can you believe it?

That was 17 years ago, hence the #17 :). OK, but the titanium/steel rod is still with me.

It is so strange that there is an intricately designed human form and function, for example, in the shoulder; but medicine just puts a common household screw in there with a long stick when it gets busted. I can't wait for all that regenerative science to get practical so you just inject some dna stuff and the body grows what the body needs.

The body already grows what it needs to, at least in some of the parts. Especially with fracture bone, the body will put temporary bridge between the crack made of flexible cartilage, osteoclasts will break down broken or damaged bone, while osteoblasts will churn up new bone and then the cartilage will be removed. Isn't that regenerative? >.>

And the screw stays in! We need to guide the body to its healing more effectively and the science to do this is only just beginning.

I think you misunderstand what i said, I was talking about the body healing a fracture itself. What i described to you is the process that your body undertakes in order to heal a bone fracture. You should really read up on how a fracture heals itself its quite fascinating, the whole point of a cast is simply to just keep it steady and to let it heal. .
