Pincushion by lauren-rabbit Pincushion by lauren-rabbit
Spent 5 days at the Casa de Union Memorial Hospital. I feel like a pincushion-12 blood draws in 5 days. I am accustomed to the arms and hands but this time they tacked on 4 to the stomach. That was new. I must say I didn't much care for it. Although I did give the doctor my card so he and the staff could look at my work and I feel it was well received.

this has inspired me to ask my friends the MDs (I know two at this point) why they would draw blood from a tummy.

So very vulnerable and powerful picture. Love how it feels slightly out of focus. Having gone through a medical mystery that involved getting EEGs and MRIs and lots of blood drawn a bad reaction to a medication and other such adventures. I think i can empathize how you felt in this picture

You do start to feel blurry after a while. just a canvas to hang more tests on. but this might be me hanging my experiences on your photo.

I have spent a great deal of time in hospital and it colors my work.

It reminds me of Avedon’s photograph of Andy Warhol showing his scars on his belly...

I don't find all of your works' dark, there's a lot of good sly (and wry) wit in 'em.... which is why they are so potent.
I'm tricky, in good malevolent humour!

At first I thought perhaps you were diabetic and these were caused by insulin injections (these look just like what my wife gets after her injections). Hope you're doing ok...
